Weight Control Revisited Again !

I sat up a web site some time ago , out of the blue ! Well , I just felt that something is really going on with everybody around ! They are almost all getting over weight !! I have sat in my medical clinic and watched most of my patients just getting over weight and fat ! On an average most people that I saw are putting about 2-3 Kilos per year ! 
What is happening and why is it happening ?
In spite of our progress in all fields of knowledge and understanding , we are not getting it right !
Just click Google and check the situation and the figures are pretty frightening to say the least !
The whole lifestyle and the food industry has created this massive , messy situation ! It has become too big and powerful for the average system to correct it ! The governing systems cannot do much ! So , sadly , we have to start by becoming responsible for our own self and our health . That is now a fact and reality !
The issue is so big that it had actually become a major billion dollar industry ! Over weight is big business . As we are now programmed , we think we can do everything fast , instantly and smartly .
It has not yet worked and I feel it is not going to work in the long run ! Sad , but that is the reality .
There is no quick fix to this chronic problem . We need to really study and understand the fundamentals that have gone wrong . We have to look at our lifestyle . We have to become aware that it is a life long issue . It is not something we can do quickly .
We have to understand how our body behaves . What happens if we eat in certain ways or certain amounts of food . the issue gets complicated as so many experts have risen that they are actually contradicting themselves ! High proteins diet , low fat , vegan , fruits and vegan , raw foods , milk is good or milk is not good . Fats that heal and fats that can kill and the list goes on and on !
Than we are constantly changing . We have to see ourselves in different stages of our life cycle . What we can do or eat when we are 20 years old , we cannot do when we are 50 years old . Our metabolic rate keeps changing . Our lifestyle is also changing . So goes with our activities and exercising patterns .
Than we also live in our world where stress is a real problem !
Managing stress is very , very important to our well being and health . Peace of mind and joy of life are all interrelated . We have to keep all these factors in mind to achieve a balanced lifestyle .




Weight control is the way in the long term .
I have made my point and I will keep making my point .

Weight Loss Vs Weight Control !

I am back to again touch on a topic that is of great concern to me . In my medical practice I have been watching my clients/patients over the years . I have become aware that weight does not go up suddenly out of the blue ! No , nature is very kind and benevolent to us . It gives us enough of warnings to correct or control our habits about anything ! I have yet to see a person going to sleep with 55.0 Kilos and than suddenly getting up in the morning and realising that he/she had gained 20.00 Kilos in a night !!
It is a slow and gradual process towards weight gain . It is so gentle and forgiving that we are allowed to indulge once in awhile and still fun time ! Nature once us to be happy and joyful , but not a level where we totally forget everything else and just go on eating or indulging in foods that are all out to make us miserable or worse still get sick !
As weight gain is a slow process , we just have to be aware and learn to control our weight . Now , that is not difficult ! It's just being mindful .  2-3 kilos can be managed gently . 
On the other hand , we are not concerned for whatever reason , and than find we have gained 10-15 Kilos and are shocked !! I simply do not understand this phenomena . Whenever , I personal put on 2-3 kilos of weight , alarm bells go on for me ! I feel uncomfortable , feel bloated , my clothes tell me so, and my reflected image too starts to scream at me ! 
Weight control is gentle , kind and allows us to have fun , yet mindful to warn us to take control . It is a lifelong way.
Weight loss is altogether another game ! A whole industry has cropped up around this pathetic situation ! It's a Billion dollar industry and just getting bigger .  People have got into a new mindset , where they want everything instant ! In this age of instant gratification , there are some painful lessons to reality . Weight loss is one such fact of life .
Please , please just take some time to sit and ponder . Think , reflect and ask yourself if I am writing or now blogging to amuse myself !

We all are aware that putting on weight is becoming a world problem . Overweight or obesity is really getting serious around the globe . Figures quoted are from  1 Billion plus ! The fact is that things are not looking good at all ! In fact , it is getting worse .
So ,what do we do or where is the real problem to weight loss .
Go to any book shop and you will have countless books on weight loss . Go and Google and you will also see hundreds or even thousands of web sites about weight loss !
Just go and search which diet is good or correct for you . Same goes with exercises . Enough has been written on the diet or the best method to exercise to have  the right weight .
I can keep writing about weight loss programs and plans for the rest of my life and yet the issue will not go away ! 
Why !!?? 
It's nothing to do with the programs or plans or about weight loss books .
IT'S TO DO WITH ONE'S PERSONAL CHANGES THAT ARE CHALLENGING !
WE ALL RESIST CHANGE VERY STRONGLY !
This is the number One factor to the whole mystery of weight loss plans and programms !
If we can understnad this one factor , than we have solved the issue !
Understand your resistance to change and you have found the magic to your development , growth and well being for life !
You can go buy , read all the wonderful books or go for all the well designed plans .
They are all great books . 
Until you come to the realisation , that you have to commit to this long term plan  or probably a lifelong plan to weight loss  , you are going to go on struggling , probably for the rest of your life !
Please , just sit down . I mean that ! Than ponder why a medical and psychologically trainned doctor
wants to share this important message to you !!
It's simply because I have seen that almost all other methods keep failing .
Make a committment and be persistent . That's it !

A Personal Weight Control Challenge !

Before I go on writing and talking about weight loss problems or weight control issues , let me share my own personal journey with weight issues !
I am now going 66 years plus . My height is just 6 feet . ( Easy for my American friends ! ) . 
Some 3 years ago I realised that I was putting on weight , especially after my fun filled and restful and relaxing holidays . 
My weight was slowly creeping towards 95.00 Kilos . Although , I am considered tall in my part of the world , it still started to show around my waist . I think I live a good healthy lifestyle ! Non smoker , hardly any alcohol ( a glass of beer or just a small helping of whiskey ) , I enjoy a vegetarian diet and sleep at least 8 hours a day ! I usually walk fast as compared to the people living in my country ! Always appearing as though on a mission ! 
So , applying my theory , that weight control is the way and that too it is a lifelong plan .
I started becoming aware of my food intake and also made the weighing machine my friend !
I read a few books to get an overall idea of what is going in the world of  foods and fads !
Finally , I went with common sense of having a moderate and balances intake of food . Slowly reduce my intake of carbohydrates , proteins and fat all around . 
I started following a diet mostly of vegetables and plenty of water with high pH , towards being alkaline . In fact , I started eating plenty of fresh veges ! Raw cucumbers , tomatoes and baby carrots !
I also took a green apple daily . 
The trick was to reduce the normal intake gradually but consistently . If , a strong desire or urge came to eat a piece of cake or some cookie , I went ahead and enjoyed it ! I was not here to torture myself or suffer . I also was in no hurry and just went about my plan at my pace . There was no giving up for any reason ! My diet can be called an alkaline based veg diet . Read a book by Dr Young , The pH Miracle and you will get a better idea .
You must be patient . It takes time for the body to become aware and adjust to a new lifestyle .
After a few gentle months , the weight started to come down ! It came down very gradually , but I was in no hurry too !
The weight kept coming down and after about a year It was 78.00 Kilos !!
I looked different or to put it mildly , a had shrunk and had to change all my clothes ! 
I thought I had gone too far and felt I do not have to be so drastic . 
Anyway , I allowed my weight to stabilise around 83.00 -85.00 kilos for now !
It took about 2 years without any tears or suffering !
I still am able to enjoy an outing and have fun , yet I can go back to my normal routine of being mindful of my long term weight control plan !
Was it difficult ? No ! It was a very gradual and gentle method . Also , I allowed myself to enjoy or have fun whenever there was a need for that ! 
It was or is a love story with my body/mind ! Being a creature of habits , I realised that I will have to create some new habits over time . Than , those good habits will do the job that is required .
I hope my personal life story has been useful . It's a common sense approach . I allow myself to slip if it happens . It's all right . 
I am still following my weight control plan as it is a lifelong plan !

Over Weight Makes Headlines in 2014 !

It's only 4 days into the new year 2014 and I noticed that the world is becoming aware of this over weight problem ! Last night, after midnight ( 4/1/2014 ) , Obesity or over weight was a major news item .
BBC news channel told that weight problem is still on the rise ! They were saying that at least there are 1 Billion people now over weight around the world ! There is great concern about this rising issue which will have a direct bearing on the health state of people . 
On the same day , I had the good fortune to get a video from Ted Talks on health matters . There I heard a wonderful inspiring and motivated talk by the Mayor of Oklahoma city . He gave a wonderful talk taking me through the over weight issues in that city and how he managed to get the people of the city to take care of the over weight problem . Within 5 years he with the support of the good people managed to turn around Oklahoma from the number one city in the USA with over weight people to a very health city now !
Now , that is leadership and moving in the right direction for a wonderful future .
As I have written before , over weight is a long term issue . We need to think long term with a lifestyle change towards having a balances living .
Gradually but surely we will be able to enjoy a healthy good lifestyle . Being creatures of habits , we have to change slowly to get into good healthy habits .
Over weight has become big business . There is money there ! So , all sorts of false , partial and truths are floating around , selling fads , diets and ideas to people  to reduce weight ! 
As I expressed early , please be smart and understand that weight problem  can be controlled .
Just be patient and take action .
A little exercise , food control and have a good feel about life and living . That will go a long way towards a good life .

Weight Loss : A Lifelong Weight Control !

Today I want to share one of my observation that I see so often in so many people .
People walk into my medical practice and look shocked that they have put on so much weight !
It's like they just got up from a deep sleep and found that they have become over weight !
It is an interesting experience that I want to share with all of you .
We are indeed very interesting beings !
Weight does not rise suddenly out of the blue ! 
It;s not like that you went to sleep with a really good figure or body weight and than suddenly you wake up to find that you have become over weight ! It does not happen that way .
It is slow gradual process that is always going on in our body .
It goes up by small steps . If I am 55Kilos , than I will have to go to perhaps 56 or 57 Kilos first .
Then I will go on to 58 or 60 Kilos .
What I am trying to express here is that weight increase gradually ! Thank Whatever !
So , if we can understand this wonderful information , than we have a wonderful way to make use of this !
I will share my own personal experience with you . 
I first have a good weighing machine that sits in my medical practice . Than I make it my habit to see what my weight is . So , if my weight starts to go up by about 2 to 3 Kilos , I become alert and start watching my weight . I also will think what have I been doing lately about my eating habits.
So , early intervention or becoming alert early is useful and helpful .
It takes just a little awareness and gently pulling back from some eating ! Once the weight is back to its former state , we can go on enjoying our living .
So ,if it has taken years to put on those Kilos/Pounds , than be patient and give yourself and the good body to go down slowly and gently !
What most of us do , once we know that we have put on weight , is to go all out with some massive weight reduction plan ! We really give our a body a shock ! 
Our body has its own built in mechanism to keep our systems in balances .Sudden shocks can disturb such balances .
The hype around weight loss has created its own sub-culture ! Media and countless glossy magazines with celebrates joining in to further confuse the loaded situation !
Just be simple , kind and gentle with your body and you will achieve so much more .
Let weight loss become a part of your normal life . 
I feel and think , I have made my point clear to you . Do not make it into a major crisis .
Just take care of your weight and of your emotions and feelings .
